AABC Tab Talk: hydronic balancing

test

Abstract:

Balancing valves are a critical component to ensure all our coils can reach their design flow rate when the building needs it’s maximum heating/cooling capacity. But majority of the season, our HVAC system only needs to deliver 50% of the heating/cooling capacity, corresponding to 25% of the design flow rate! This is where control valves come into play, to ensure we get the required flow rate to provide stable heating and cooling into our spaces. During this session, we will look at how balancing valves and control valves work together to provide stable room temperature control and understand how different balancing solutions effect our room temperature controllability.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Advantages and disadvantages of different balancing solutions.
  2. Control valve authority, and how it predicts control valve hunting.
  3. How balancing valves and control valves work together to provide stable temperature control.
  4. How variable speed pumps effect our room temperature controllability.
