Electrical Distribution Systems: What a TAB Professional Should Know

Jan. 27, 2021 | 2PM Eastern

TAB technicians routinely measure electrical voltage and amperage on HVAC equipment as part of regular testing activities.  However, they should also understand the source of that electrical energy, how it is distributed throughout the facilities, and how to use standard data collected to estimate the work performed by the motors in the equipment. This webinar will address a basic description of electrical power distribution in commercial facilities, how an induction motor operates, data that should be collected or measured, and how this data can be used to estimate brake horsepower to compare electrical measurements with air and water system performance measurements (i.e. flow and pressures).

Learning Objectives:

  • Differences between single phase and three phase power.
  • Basic power distribution systems in a commercial facility.
  • Induction motor operation.
  • How to collect motor data from nameplate and manufacturer’s technical data.
  • How to safely measure voltage and amperage in the field.
  • How to use nameplate data, manufacturer’s data and field measurements to estimate brake horsepower.
