AABC has partnered with the Engineered Air Balance Training Center to provide technical education for the betterment of the industry and AABC members.

The EAB and AABC are working together to develop new program material that benefit certified Test & Balance Engineers (TBE) as well as certified Test & Balance Technicians (TBT).

The EAB team of experts are uniquely equipped to train the next generation of technicians, engineers and building operators. The state-of-the-art training center in Houston, Texas is committed to developing technical knowledge, expertise and problem-solving skills to move the entire industry forward.

TAB Professional Courses

Testing Adjusting and Balancing of HVAC and Controls Systems

The TAB Technician Fundamentals course is a detailed, hands-on interactive program that will provide both classroom and technical instruction on basic instrumentation and procedures for air and hydronic measurements such as velocity, flow, pressure, temperature, rotational speed, electrical voltage and current, as well as correction factors and best practices.

At the conclusion of the course, the participant will have learned valuable skills to be proficient in the use of basic air and hydronic instrumentation, basic balancing calculations (fan/pump laws, density correction, traversing, sheave, and belt sizing, etc.), and have a basic understanding of air side and water side components and systems.

Prerequisites: None
Classroom Instruction Time: 20 hours
Hands-On Instruction Time: 15 hours

The Technician Air & Water Systems Procedures course is a detailed program that will provide both classroom and technical instruction on balancing procedures for basic air systems, hydronic systems, and domestic hot water systems found in commercial buildings.

At the conclusion of the course, the participant will be proficient in understanding the process and procedures for conducting Total System Balancing of basic air, hydronic, and domestic hot water systems found in commercial buildings (i.e. offices, schools, retail, public assembly, etc).

Prerequisites: EAB Technician Fundamentals Course with 2-5 years of TAB experience; participants must have a thorough understanding of instrumentation, equipment and components, and fundamental TAB calculations (electrical, pump laws, density correction, electrical, fan laws, psychrometrics, and heat transfer).

Classroom Instruction Time: 15 hours
Hands-On Instruction Time: 5 hours
AABC Continuing Education Credits: 18 hours*

The Technician Control Systems Verification course is a detailed program that will provide both classroom and technical instruction on procedures for verifying control components and sequences found in commercial buildings.

At the conclusion of the course, the participant will be proficient in understanding the process and procedures for conducting the control verification requirements of Total System Balancing of basic HVAC systems found in commercial buildings (i.e. offices, schools, retail, public assembly, etc.).

Prerequisites: Technician – Fundamentals Course and Technician – Air Systems Procedures Course with 3-5 years of TAB experience; participants must have a thorough understanding of HVAC equipment and components, TAB procedures, and system design intent.

The Technician Advanced Systems course is a detailed program that will provide both classroom and technical instruction on advanced procedures for testing complex and unique applications found in large commercial buildings, healthcare and research facilities, mission critical facilities and clean manufacturing areas.

At the conclusion of the course, the participant will be proficient in understanding the procedures for conducting Total System Balancing of complex HVAC systems found in healthcare, research, manufacturing, industrial and mission critical facilities. This is an excellent preparation course for an experienced TAB professional preparing to take the Test and Balance Engineer’s (TBE) Exam.

Prerequisites: Technician – Fundamentals, Air Systems Procedures, Water Systems Procedures and Control Verification Procedures Courses with a minimum of 8-10 years of TAB experience.
