Smoke Control System Balance for Correctional Facilities

Smoke Control System Balance for Correctional Facilities

Abstract:

This case study examines the Test and Balance of a complex smoke control system in a correctional facility. This building utilizes single duct systems with automatic changeover dampers served by multiple fans during both normal and smoke control modes. Since the system must support 24/7 operation without the ability to evacuate occupants, prioritization must be given to the smoke control mode without compromising indoor environmental quality during normal operation.

Learning Objectives:

1. Prioritization of smoke control mode with normal and emergency systems
2. System performance on permanent and emergency power
3. Documentation for multiple modes of operations
4. Coordination with designer of record before and after balancing
